NAME The club shall be called  “MUSSELBURGH ARTS CLUB”




The purpose of the Club shall be to promote and encourage the study, practice and knowledge of the Visual Arts in the Burgh of Musselburgh and surrounding district




Membership shall be open to persons of 14 years of age and upwards, or of less than fourteen if accompanied by an adult member who shall be responsible. The Executive shall have the power to refuse membership without giving any reason


There shall be the following classes of membership

  • Honorary Members who shall be appointed on a life-long or shorter-term basis in recognition of service to the Club
  • Practicing Adult Members (18 years of age and or over)
  • Junior Members (UP to 18 years of age
  • Students of any age
  • Old-age Pensioners
  • Registered unemployed
  • “Friends of the Club” who shall be eligible to attend Club activities against their current entrance fee levied at the door (#)
  • (**) “Non-painting partners” who shall be eligible to accompany their Member partners on Club occasions (#)

(#) (**) N.B. Neither Friends of the Club nor Non-painting Partners shall have any voting rights nor any rights to exhibit work in Club exhibitions




The Annual Subscription shall be such sum as may be fixed for the time being by the Club or at a General Meeting.

(****) The subscription is to be paid in full within one month of the Annual General Meeting

(*****) People who join the Club for the first time at some stage between Annual General Meetings will have their subscription for the year in which they join calculated on a pro-rata basis but part-year membership on a recurring basis is not to be permitted

(***) Treasurer and Secretary will each be free of membership subscription in the year following their service

(****) In the event of a member’s being appointed for the special purpose of handling the financial work of an annual exhibition, that member will have his or her membership subscription for the following year reduced by 50%




The business of the club shall be managed by an executive which shall consist of the Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of the Club and six other members.

An Honorary President and Vice-president may be appointed at the discretion of the Club at an Annual General Meeting.

The Officers of the Club and other members of the executive shall retire on the day of the Annual General Meeting but shall be eligible for re-election

Any casual vacancy in the executive arising after the Annual General Meeting may be filled by the Executive. The QUORUM at any meeting shall be SIX

The Chairperson shall preside at Business and Executive meetings and shall have a deliberative and a casting vote.



Keys giving access to the Club rooms shall be issued only to Adult Members against a returnable deposit which sum shall be fixed by the Executive from time to time



The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held in Musselburgh on some date in September each year at 8:00pm.

A special General Meeting of the Club may be called at any time by the Executive or Chairperson or upon the requisition of not fewer than TEN members, delivered to the Secretary and specifying the Motion to be submitted to the meeting.

One fourth of the voting member shall be a QUORUM at any General Meeting

Notice of any General Meeting shall be posted by the Secretary to those  members who have voting rights at least seven days before the date of the meeting



The Club may affiliate to any organisation that may help further the objects of the Club

(*) The Club shall henceforward from 2nd July, 1982, be in affiliations with the Lothians District Photographers’ Society. This affiliation deleted (♦)



The income of the Club shall consist of the annual subscriptions and any donation, subsidies and profits on activities. The income shall be applied solely toward the promotion of the objects of the Club as heretofore specified. Members shall not receive any payment, direct or indirect, for their services or for other than legitimate expenses.


In the event of the Club’s being wound up, residuary legatees of any remaining asset shall be a Charitable Trust nominated and decided by the final General Meeting of the Club.


The Financial Year of the Club shall commence on the 1st of September and accounts for the year to 31st August following shall be prepared by the Treasurer, audited by two persons appointed by the Executive, and submitted to the Annual General Meeting.



None of the foregoing provisions shall be amended except by a Resolution passed at a General Meeting of the Club.


Notice of any motion to introduce such an amendment shall be given in writing to the Secretary at least four weeks prior to the date of the meeting at which it is to be taken into consideration, and the terms thereof shall be specified in the Notice of the meeting.
